Last Saturday, I (Karen) had to work all day in Central London attending a conference. It was a bit of an early return to all things work related but it was just a one-off day which was important for work I have booked in 2015. So Dan was left in charge of the babies for the first time. I actually left around 9pm the night before and stayed at Mum's to get enough sleep before attending the conference so Dan had to do all overnight feeds too.
It was really hard to leave the house, saying goodbye to them. I did feel quite guilty but I knew I was leaving them in safe hands. I appreciated how hard it must have been for Dan to go back to work after his two weeks of paternity leave.
During the day I texted or phoned during my breaks to ask Dan how things were going. He kept saying everything was fine. At one point he actually said he had considered making up a problem to make me feel needed! Cheeky!
Overall things went well with no major problems. I think though that Dan now has more of an awareness of how it is with two babies on your own so perhaps he appreciates a little more what my day is usually like. He admitted that he had lots of fun but doing it day in day out would be a very different story.
I returned at 7pm to two peaceful sleeping babies and a husband looking proud of himself drinking a beer. Sweet domestic bliss!
